I used the value of the doors to create a gradation from darker less saturated dull colors to vibrant bright ones representing the main character's emotional journey. I used the repetition of many doors to show Oskar’s experience. I randomly placed doors of various colors on the cover to create a scattered look. I do this by using color, repetition, line, value, contrast, and direction. Regarding the book I wanted to convey the commotion, confusion, and journey Oskar experiences while simultaneously emphasising the author. Not only does he go on a physical journey going door to door (hence the doors on the cover) looking for someone who can tell him things about his father, but he comes to terms with his dad’s death and out of confusion and sadness. The concept of my first book cover (emphasis on the author) is centered around the main character, Oskar’s journey throughout the book. ![]() I chose to create my book covers for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer because it is simply one of my favorite books. ![]()
